What inspired you to become a Pilates instructor?

My children! I've always enjoyed Pilates but knew I had to take it further after I felt the difference Pilates makes to your body after experiencing such drastic changes during pregnancy. Reformer Pilates is such a functional, unique, effective and safe form of exercise that I easily became addicted to learning everything I could about the Reformer so I could share the experience with others. Being a pilates instructor is a very healthy, motivational and rewarding profession that I am lucky enough to share with my community and family.

What inspired you to become a Pilates instructor?

I wanted to pass on the knowledge I have gained throughout the years. After learning gymnastics as a child, Ballet throughout my schooling, Ballroom and Latin as an adult…PILATES just made sense! It compliments everything.

After 3 babies I needed to be sucked back in and that’s what Reformer Pilates does! Pilates is great for BRINGING BACK your strength and flexibility after babies and is really important as we age.

I enjoy teaching people how Pilates can fix imbalances and work muscles you never knew you had! I was guilty of doing everything for everyone else & not looking after MYSELF. I was exhausted. Pilates helped bring back ME and I wanted to help others do the same.

So….. here I am feeling totally energised by all the efforts of our amazing and hard working CLIENTS and want to ‘pay it forward’. 😊

What inspired you to become a Pilates instructor?

Coming from a dance background, I have always had a strong interest in how the body moves, strength and conditioning and, injury prevention and rehabilitation. This resulted in me studying various training methods including matwork pilates and children's yoga. I was very keen to try reformer pilates and after my first class, I was hooked!

Why Pilates

Pilates is a low impact, flowing movement exercise therapy regime, which is suitable for everyone (we even offer a specialised Pregnancy Pilates class). Recovery or rest periods are not required, therefore, you are able to do Pilates as much as you want without increased risk of injury!

Pilates will positively impact your every day life through:

  • Increased core stability
  • Improved posture
  • Correction of muscle imbalances
  • Enhanced sports performance
  • Injury prevention
  • Increased endurance
  • Pain reduction for chronic pain sufferers
  • Total body conditioning

You will achieve longer, leaner, toned muscles opposed to shorter bulkier superficial muscles which are often targeted in typical workouts. Best of all the workouts are never boring as there are hundreds of combinations and modifications for your personal requirements.

Pilates Principles

  • Concentration

Gain body awareness and get more from your workout as you understand correct posture, body positioning, movement patters, muscle activation and breathing. The more you train, the more automatic the movement and muscle activation patterns become.

  • Centering

Every Pilates exercise requires activation from the core of the body which promotes stability and strength.

  • Breathing

Pilates breathing patterns improve the effectiveness of the exercise and assist with the flowing movement required to perform the exercises.

  • Control

All Pilates movements are controlled. More is gained by a slow and complete movement (pushing and resisting) opposed to a jerky and repetitious movement.

  • Precision

Practice makes Perfect! Movements are performed with precision, purpose and direction.

  • Flowing Movement

Focus on increasing the duration a muscle is under tension opposed to repetitions. The motion is continuous and smooth.

  • Isolation

Pilates creates body and muscle awareness which enables you to isolate and primarily activate stabilising muscles opposed to large or superficial muscles when performing movements in all directions.

  • Routine

Pilates exercises improve coordination and challenge the mind and body. Ongoing and regular Pilates will exponentially deliver results.
